Taking care of our feet seems like a fair deal, considering all the hard work they do for us every day – especially when they have to be locked up all hot and sweaty in socks and shoes. The heat and dampness makes feet vulnerable to fungal infections, athlete’s foot and bad odor. This summer, show off the softest, sparkliest and sweetest-smelling pair of tootsies with a little help from essential oils.

Even though we treat them like the most rugged part of our body, our feet are far more sensitive than we can imagine and yet, they receive so little in the way of pampering except for the very occasional visit to the salon.  Did you know there are 7.200 nerve endings in our feet? Therefore, it is hardly surprising that a 2-minute foot rub can make all the tiredness and fatigue disappear almost magically!

Giving your feet some much deserved TLC doesn’t take too much of your time.  Beauty comes as an added bonus because happy feet are pretty feet . Moreover, natural pedicures use organic ingredients that are gentle on the skin and do not cause any allergic reactions. Save that spa money and get perfect summer feet right at home with this incredibly rejuvenating 3-step aromatherapy in-home pedicure. Your feet are going to thank you for this.

Step 1: Soak your feet

Begin by preparing an aromatic foot soak. You don’t need a fancy foot bath for this – a regular plastic tub will work just fine.
¼ cup sea salt
4 drops Cypress essential oil (deodorant)
4 drops Tea Tree essential oil (Antifungal)
3 drops Bergamot essential oil (antiseptic with a heavenly smell) to warm water

Soak your feet in it, sit back and relax while the oils do their work.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Prepare an all-natural, home-made foot scrub by combining the following ingredients:

¼ cup sea salt and ¼ brown sugar for gentle and effective exfoliation
¼ cup olive oil for deep moisturizing
¼ cup Jojoba Oil to soften the skin and form a fine, non-greasy protective layer over it
5 drops of Spearmint essential oil to refresh the feet and relieve any aches and pains
5 drops Lemon essential oil to improve circulation and work as a natural astringent
5 drops Lavender essential oil to restore moisture in the tissues

Take a tablespoon of this blend and gently massage your feet, paying special attention to the rough areas on your toes, heels and ankles. Rinse your feet and pat dry with a towel.

Step 3: Moisturize

Make a nourishing anti-fungal nail oil by combining:
1 oz Jojoba Oil
5 drops Geranium oil
5 drops Tea Tree oil
5 drops Eucalyptus Radiata oil
Finish off your in-home spa routine by applying this blend generously all over the feet, massaging the nails as you go. This oil nourishes the cuticles and prevents growth of odor-causing fungus and bacteria. It will also keep your feet smelling divine!

Tip: For best results, treat yourself to this in-home pedicure at night and pull on a pair of cotton socks to lock in the moisture before you go to bed.
